Mount Langya

Langya Mountain lies in the southwest of Chuzhou City, the east of Anhui Province. It is a key national scenic spot and the state forest park, one of the five major resorts in Anhui. The mountain is 48 kilometers away from Nanjing City, and 130 kilometers from Hefei, the capital city of Anhui Province.
Mt. Langya, located in the southwest of Chuzhou City of Anhui, is a national level scenic spot of China. The tree-covered mountain offers a splendid view. Men of letters and scholars of dynasties in the past left many popular writings and hundreds of imitative rock inscriptions. Mt. Langya is a tourist spot in east Anhui. Today it has been opened up as the state level forest park.

 Anhui Province. It was called Motuo Range in ancient times, and changed to “Langya Mountain” when Langya King of East Jin dynasty came here to take refuge. The scenic zone consists of Langya Mountain, Chengxi Lake, Gushan Lake and Hugu, the main peaks include Motuo Range, Fenghuang Mountain, Dafeng Mountain, Xiaofeng Mountain, Langya Mountain, etc.

Langya Mountain is pretty with gurgling springs and gullies, ancient trees and flowers are every where. The environment is very good. Langya Mountain is 317 meters in altitude. Here are lots of historical sites, such as Langya Temple of Tang dynasty, the Drunkard Pavilion which is the top of the four famous pavilions of China, Guyi, etc. and also 250 petroglyphs made in Tang, Song and Yuan dynasty. Among them, the Guanyin painting by Wu Daoxi, petroglyph by Li Youqin, the stele of The Drundard Pavilion and Fengle Pavilion written by Su Dopo are the most famous.

The Pavilion of the Old Drunkard
The Pavilion o the Old Drunkard, situated half way up Mt. Langya, was built in 1064 A.D.. Near it are nine courtyards and seven other pavilions of different forms, with columns and beams heavily decorated. Ouyang Xiu, an eminent writer of the Song Dynasty, once wrote a well-known prose "On the Pavilion of the Old Drunkard." It has kept Mt. Langya and the pavilion well reputed up to now.

The resort covers an area of 115 square kilometers with a forest coverage rate of 86%. There are rich plant and animal resources, including 54 bird species protected bythe Sino-Japanese Agreement on the Protection of Migratory Birds, rare species of Langya elm and Zuiweng elm, and the most completely preserved natural secondary forest among the limestone zone of the Chinese transitional zone from subtropical to warm temperature. Clear brooks like the Langya Brook, Boli Brook and springs like the Rang Spring, Zhuoying Spring are singing, and caves like the Guiyun Cave, Xuehong Cave, Chongxi Cave, and Taoyuan Cave of surprising views are scattered in the mountain.     
Many eminent poets and writers as well as people of wealth came here to build pagodas, compose poems and verses, so numerous relics of literature can be found in the mountain. There are six great scenes in Langya, namely mountain, temple, pagoda, spring, writing, and people. The Langya Temple built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) is famous in eastern Anhui Province and also one of the major temples in China. The Zuiweng (an old drunkard) Pavilion was built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and gained its reputation for the verse ofZuiweng Ting Ji(the Pavilion of the Old Drunkard), which is regarded as the No.1 pagoda in China. Other rebuilt spots like the Nantian Door, Yefang Park, Shengxiu Lake, and Tongle Park and stele inscriptions ofZuiweng Ting Ji(the Pavilion of the Old Drunkard) that are in four different styles bring out the best in each other with the ancient constructions, ancient road, and ancient pavilion in the mountain.

Go around: There are buses at Chuzhou Railway Station direct to Langya Scenic Spot, you could arrive there in 10 minutes, the bus could drive to the Drunkard Pavilion Parking Lot, and the taxi could continue to Langya Temple.

1. If you want to board in Langya Mountain scenic spot, you are suggested to live in the holiday village in the mountain, which is next to Shenxiu Lake, the scenery is beautiful and the air is fresh. It provides spring bathing, and the price is reasonable.
2. Nanjing is very near to Chuzhou, so most of the speed buses do not stop at Chuzhou. You are suggested to get to Nanjing, and take a bus from Nanjing to Chuzhou. Nanjing has 8 coach stations, only Xiaguan Bus Station has buses to Chuzhou.
3. If you want to save the energy, you could take a taxi after entering the mountain gate along Langya Ancient road, and get directly to Langya Temple, and then walk to Nantian Gate. The taxi fare is 10 RMB.

Best Travel Time:
Chuzhou falls within north sub tropical monsoonal climate, with abundant sunshine and rainfall, the temperature is mild, with an annual average temperature of 14.4C -16.6 C. All the four seasons are suitable for travel.
